T. Daniel Ting, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Ting grew up on the West Coast (the west coast of Lake Michigan in Chicago). He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago and then enrolled in the combined M.D./Ph.D. program at the University of Illinois. He decided on a career in ophthalmology and completed his residency training at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation where he also served as Chief Resident.

He completed his Vitreoretinal fellowship at the Duke University Eye Center where he was granted the Hornaday Fellow Award for excellence in teaching, clinical care, ethics, and research. During his fellowship, Dr. Ting was also awarded the prestigious Knapp Fellowship by the American Ophthalmological Society, as well as the Heed Fellowship by the Heed Ophthalmic Foundation.

Dr. Ting specializes in the latest techniques for the treatment of macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, and retinal detachment. He is involved in several national clinical trials studying new treatments for diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular disease. He has also published multiple scientific papers and book chapters on vision research.

Dr. Ting is married and has two sons and a dog. He enjoys traveling with his family, computers, and woodworking. He is also passionate about football and was a starting player as a freshman on the University of Chicago football team, home of the first Heisman Trophy winner. His bid to return the Heisman trophy to his alma mater was derailed as he played the unglamorous position of defensive lineman.
