Allen Z. Verne, M.D.
Born in New York City, Dr. Verne attended Hobart College and then went on to get his medical degree at New York Medical College. His ophthalmology training was done at St. Lukes Hospital Center in New York City and his retina training was at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco.
Dr. Verne served as the chief of Ophthalmology at L.B.J. Tropical Medical Center in Pago Pago American Samoa. He currently is head of the retina service at Highland hospital and has been chief of ophthalmology at John Muir Hospital. Dr. Verne is an assistant clinical professor and consultant at California Pacific Medical Center. Dr. Verne has a special interest in complicated traumatic problems as well as diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Verne is a founder and past president of the "Vitreous Society." This society is the largest international organization which advances research and education in the diagnosis and treatment of all retinal diseases. Dr. Verne is not only a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, but he is also a member of the French Ophthalmology Society. He has recently been invited to lecture in Paris on new advances and techniques in retinal surgery in the United States. His interests outside of medicine include mountain climbing, skiing and sailing.
